LED / Light - Emitting Diode

LED is a product that is being used our everyday life for indicator or display applications. In very early stage of LED (before mid '90s), LED's brightness and color is limited. Thanks to new color of LED light emerges and enhancement of performance, the application becomes limitless. Message board, Emergency light, Traffic Light, Automotives has become typical application of LED.

Beyond this current applications, new applications such as Back Light of LCD Displays, Lighting for home, commercial, industrial sector has become focus of LED industry.

LED light in USA

The principle of LED is that, when input into voltage, as electron moves through PN Junction they reunion. In this process, due to lower energy status, light is generated due to energy gap.

The semiconductor dice is as small as 0.3mm2. This dice need package to enable fuction with eletricity. Typical package consists of lead frame and plastic lens. Most popular package type is 5mm (T1 3/4) Epoxy Resin, SMD , High Power LEDs.

The color of LED lights : LED emits different color(Wavelength) depending on its combination of semiconductor. Most common semiconductor material is Alumiium Gallium Indium Phosphide(AlGaInP) and Indium Gallium Nitride(InGaN). AlGaInP is mainly for Yellow Green, Yellow, Orange, Red. And InGaN is for UV, Blue, Pure Green color. White color come from mixture of Blue with Phosphor or combination of RGB etc...
