TERMINOLOGY

1. Candela (luminous intensity )
"The candela is the luminous intensity, in the perpendicular direction, of a surface of 1/600000 square meter of a blackbody (full radiator) at the temperature of freezing platinum under a pressure of 101325 newton per square meter."

2. Lumen (luminous flux) & Lux
Lux (lx)
A unit of illuminance or light falling onto a surface. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter. Ten lux approximately equals one footcandle. (See FOOTCANDLE )

Luminance
A measure of "surface brightness" when an observer is looking in the direction of the surface. It is measured in candelas per square meter (or per square foot) and was formerly referred to as "photome tric brightness."

3. Wavelength
The distance between two neighboring crests of a traveling wave. The wavelength of light is between 400 and 700 nanometers.

4. Typical Electro-optical characteristics curve
